About this place
Waraji tonkatsu is named for its sandal-like size. Diners have been surprised to find two layers of pork cutlet on the plate, and describe a crisp, light coating around juicy meat. It is a dish to consider when you want both a generous portion and a satisfying bite. If you are unsure how much to order, the menu also offers regular and mini tonkatsu set meals. One diner reported that even the regular serving was larger than a tonkatsu set meal at a typical restaurant, with the waraji version larger still. Another chose the regular set and remarked on the substantial cut of meat and its tenderness. The mini is an option if you want tonkatsu but would prefer a more modest portion.
For a different way to enjoy fried cutlet, try katsudon with clam soup. A first-time visitor who ordered the combination enjoyed the generously portioned cutlet’s sweet seasoning and the broth, which came with plenty of asari clams. It is an option to bear in mind if you fancy something other than a set meal, or want soup alongside your main dish. The menu also has other familiar diner dishes, including katsu curry, katsu curry udon and omurice. One diner described the omurice as having a thoroughly cooked egg and rice with a complex, demi-glace-style flavour. It may appeal if you prefer an omelette cooked through rather than a soft, fluffy one.
The noodle selection runs from staples such as kitsune udon and moon-viewing udon to nishin soba, nabeyaki udon and curry udon. There are plenty of rice dishes and bowls, too. Kannabe is more than a soba and udon shop: you can choose noodles, a rice bowl or a set meal to suit your mood. The restaurant welcomes solo diners and serves meals for eating in. Its location is in Higashinakahama, Joto Ward, Osaka City. It is open Monday to Saturday from 11:30 to 20:00 and closed on Sundays. Payment is cash only.
